Obama/Biden: Closeting the Truth

Posted: March 27, 2011 in Uncategorized

Does it ever seem in order to actually find out what is REALLY happening in the US, that we need to turn to the UK? It is interesting since there are so many reasons we don’t want the US to imitate the UK, but there is also so much to respect about the UK.. so once again, thank you to DailyMail UK,  for sharing another great tale about a screwed up and deceptive government.. their headline alone nearly tells the entire story:

Vice President’s staff lock journalist in a closet for hours during a fundraiser to stop him talking to guests

They highlight the “transparency” that Obama promised, but aside from his over used phrase “let me be clear”, has anything been close to transparent. Heck that abused-phrase is not much different from a person who says “Let me be honest”, oh ok because you have lied about everything else? And that surely is the case with Obama. He has run a painfully dishonest White House, but I did not expect anything else from him. Not like I expect much from any politician, but so much about Obama glared with deception from day one. If you missed the bold-faced transparency lie.. this might help:

The White House website proudly says ‘President Obama is committed to creating the most open and accessible administration in American history.’

Well not open to anyone who does not adore/worship Obama, not open to anyone who has a question, no open or accessible to anyone they can label a “tea-bagger”. Not accessible or open to any non-pre-approved liberal media outlet. Not open to talk-radio. No conservatives allowed.

Alas to cement the lies, to ensure no accurate information accidentally leaks, they stage their events with people who have pre-approved questions, or in this case lock away someone who might ask questions, and actually expect answers. Remember also too often when it comes to Q&A time Obama and or Biden exit stage left before a question can be asked.

The story just sounds unfathomable. A reporter was invited to a political fundraiser, then locked in a closet so he would not talk to other guests. Why did they invite him in the first place? The reporter was told to stay in the closet because Senator Bill Nelson and VP Biden had not arrived yet. What was this a surprise party?

Powers told The Drudge Report: ‘When I’d stick my head out, they’d say, “Not yet. We’ll let you know when you can come out.”’

The party was being held for Democrat senator Bill Nelson. Powers emailed from inside the closet: ‘sounds like a nice party’

They let him out to here Biden & Nelson speak, but returned to the closest. Apparently Biden’s staff is not aware of kidnapping laws?

Florida state law says kidnapping entails ‘forcibly, secretly or by threat confining, abducting or imprisoning another person against her or his will and without lawful authority.’

Naturally Biden’s office had not offered comment to this situation, and the apology they offered the reporter was weak and insulting.
Though I do wonder, this man had a cell phone, he did not call for help? Did he bang on the door? Were their guards outside the door? It sounds like there were, if he could peek out to find out if he could come out. Why a closet? And it was not a nice closet, but a pretty junky one from the pictures he took with his cell phone.  This was a huge mansion, why not a guest suite, I am sure the place had one. How and why was he so patient to allow himself to remain in the closet? I am not forgiving the behavior of those who locked him in the closet, but also wonder about his choices/actions as well. It seems he just patiently waited, while he could hear others enjoying the event. Did anyone slip him some food? Really really a bizarre & disturbing story. Thank you Katie for sharing this!
I looked through the Orlando Sentinel website and saw no mention of this reporter’s story, but did see an article about the Biden/Nelson fundraiser. Humm, interesting. They would look far better if they did have a story on it, instead now there are lingering questions about the situation, and what else is being hidden.
Now on the fundraiser, one of things I saw they were talking about was a see-through the wall device, maybe they planned a demonstration with the  closet kept reporter? (Ok just had to include that for humor).

Biden Aide Apologizes After Reporter Kept in Storage Closet During Fundraiser

Don’t you just love that image, it captures his clueless/indifferent nature, doesn’t it?

They state they usually have “hold-rooms” where reporters would wait in, that this closet was chosen because it was close to the speaking location, and had a desk and chair. But the images of the room, were horrible. The location was a mansion, but the best they could provide was a storage closet?

The spokesperson extended an apology, but it was feeble at best.. also there is nothing that reveals Biden has offered any apology. This is his staffer who did this. I am sure since the vp was attending this event the location was checked out before he would arrive, which also means they would have looked at such areas as where they would hide a reporter. So this was ill-thought out, and Biden is also to blame!

  1. Katie says:

    From Drudge:

“And no crustini for Powers, either. He made do with a bottle of water to sip as he sat at a tiny makeshift desk, right next to a bag marked “consignment.” Powers was closeted at about 11:30 a.m., held for about an hour and 15 minutes, came out for 35 minutes of remarks by Biden and Sen. Bill Nelson, Florida Democrat, and then returned to his jail for the remainder of the event.

“Powers’ phone didn’t work in the closet, but his Blackberry did, so he fired a picture of his impromptu prison to his editors, who posted a short blog item on the lack of freedom of the press under the veep’s control.”

Supposedly he was confined without the knowledge or permission of the owner of the home. Clearly, he was “held against his will”.

I think that he did not scream or such, because it would ruin any future chance of him getting a story.

But, literally, they let the media lap dog out to watch the dog and pony show, and then wisked him away before he could mingle with the important people….

Proving, yet again, that the Obama administration only cares about the important people, others be dam**d.

thank you Katie.. I did not see those details, and they fill alot of blanks.. and definitely show how disturbing this story is.

Biden and the entire lot of them should be placed in jail, and it should be well publicized!

  2. bob says:

I guess the question I have is what is the normal treatment? I understand that a more comfortable room should have been used as a waiting area for him, but what else was unusual? He was not there as a donor, so not getting to mingle asking questions or not getting any of the food might be the norm. Why was there only a single reporter invited to hear the VP’s and Nelson’s comments? Seems like there should have been a few reporters there at least.

I think the reporter should have asked to be shown to a better location to wait even if the proximity were not as convenient. Given the length of wait proximity shouldn’t matter. The aide should have had ample time to retrieve him from anywhere in the mansion in order to hear the speeches. If he didn’t say anything he must shoulder some responsibility for being held in the storage closet.

I am also wondering why Biden didn’t apologize personally instead of through and a spokesperson. It doesn’t take much to get on the phone and say your sorry. Just proves Biden doesn’t really care.

    • gypsy says:

Bob, it does really raise alot of unanswered questions. And definitely confirms the type of “person” Biden is.. and it people should be made aware of it, before the next election.. in case Obama runs again with him or against him.. neither are people who should have any more time in the white house!! Not even in a closet of the white house!

They should be ashamed, and apologizing like mad! But of course, their (lack) of reaction is not shocking is it?

  3. Katie says:

Evidently this is a fairly common occurance.

This reporter was not the first to be “closeted”. I understand the fact that it is a fundraiser, and they want privacy, but if that is the case, have the reporter arrive in time for the speech, and then let them go.

But, this shows a contempt for others. A belief that there are people, many people, who do not warrant even common courtesy. And the belief that other peoples’ time is not important (kind of like the waiting room at a doctor’s office that keeps you for hours – you show up on time, the doctor should realize that your time is important, and see you promptly…).

After all, did the reporter have a union? Because Biden only “dances” with union members (or at least he has used that analogy in 2009 and 2011, and probably more).

    • gypsy says:

I am glad someone else stepped forward to share his story. Maybe more will step forward too, since (sadly) this is surely is not isolated to just these 2 reporters.

The hold room excuse they give is just unacceptable. It would be better if it was a more appropriate & comfortable waiting space. These are not small inner-city rowhomes, where there would not be alot of options.. these are mansions, there are no doubt plenty of other options.

And like has been said, like you said, they could give the reporter a proper time to attend, rather then having them closed up in a room by themselves.

      This is really disturbing!
